. The root cause of such diseases is generally unsafe sex and unhigenic
living conditions.
Chancroid is a sexually transmitted
disease caused by infection with the bacterium Haemophilus ducreyi.
This organism causes one or more ulcers on the genitalia and are
associated with inguinal lymphadenitis. The affected lymph nodes
may progress towards abscess formation. Co-existent infection with
other organisms e.g. Herpes simplex, Treponema pallidum and Chlamydia
trachomatis is common. The chancroid appears within few hours as
a pustule with rapidly ulcerate. The ulcer is yellow, irregular
and the discharge is free and purulent.
Gonorrhoea is a venereal disease
caused by the bacteria Neisseria gonorrhoeae. There is white, yellow
or green discharge from the orifice of the penis and a feeling of
pain during the act of urination along with inflamation of the penis.
The disease most frequently affects 15 to 25-year-olds, although
the number of cases has fallen in recent years.
Syphilis is a sexually transmitted
infection (STD) caused by a spirochaete bacterium, Treponema pallidum.
Syphilis has many alternate names, including "syph", "the Pox" (or
"great pox", to distinguish it from smallpox), "lues" (hence luiphobia,
or fear of syphilis), and the "freedom disease."
The route of transmission of syphilis is almost invariably by sexual
contact; however, there are examples of direct contact infections
(see yaws) and of congenital syphilis (transmission from mother
to child in utero).
